My painting Pietà captures the remarkable work of Renaissance sculpture Pietà by Michelangelo. The scene of the Pieta shows the Mother Mary holding the dead body of Christ on her lap after his crucifixion, death, and removal from the cross, but before he was placed in the tomb. Michelangelo did not want his version of the Pietà to represent death, but rather to show the "religious vision of abandonment and a serene face of the Son," thus the representation of the communion between man and God by the sanctification through Christ. This was a special work of art even in the Renaissance because at the time, multi-figured sculptures were rare. Michelangelo’s Pietà is one of the most beautiful sculptures in the history of art and one of the most representative works of the Renaissance ideal.
